Taking a break

Taking a break

When is the last time you made yourself take an intentional break, big or small?

Not a break because you’re so exhausted you can’t push yourself a step further break. An intentional break.

I’m terrible at this and I’m going to really start planning my intentional breaks. I plan my schedule, my family, my workouts, my business...it’s time to schedule the intentional breaks.

Cultivating GRIT

Cultivating GRIT

GRIT is a team sport, every member is important and valued. When you make it through 28 days straight, you’ll forever be a member of the strongest team I’ve ever witnessed.

If you need someone to commit to, you can commit to me. Just like I told the girls who joined me this month: I’ll never quit on you. Don’t quit o

Kindhearted Badass Code:

I do hard things.

We do not say “we CAN do hard things” we actually DO hard things.

I hold the pen.

We write the story of our own lives. No one holds the pen but you. Use it to write a beautiful script.

Document it all

Document it all

What I will tell you though, is that when you lose someone, all you have is the documentation. When you want to feel connected to them and they’re gone, those photos and videos are your savior. Their letters and cards, seeing their handwriting, hearing their laugh on an audio clip, that’s all you have left.

Memories fade. We think we will remember forever, but we won’t.

We cultivate grit by doing things when we don’t want to. Don’t want to scoop manure? Do it anyway. Don’t want to go out in the cold? Do it anyway. Don’t want to clean the smooshed poop off the grates? Do it anyway. Don’t want to....? Do it anyway.

Doing it anyway for your animals will bleed over into doing it anyway for the other things you put off in life.

Career farmer might be quite the exaggeration (more like aspiring hobbyist) but lessons from the backyard farm aren’t.

Backyard Farms

Backyard Farms
I said I want to be able to take the kids outside and hang out with the animals. I want to watch the chickens peck around the yard. I want to be able to utilize this as an opportunity to teach the boys about responsibility to others and doing things when they don’t want to. There will be many mornings no one actually wants to put their coats on and go all the way down the yard to do chores but they’ll get done anyway, and that’s a good lesson to learn young.

Starting small is exactly how you get where you want to go. Don’t ever be embarrassed by it.

The first thing we did was refinance our mortgage from a 30 year to a 15 year so we can build equity quicker in the home we already have, so in 5 years time, if we are ready to get our first larger piece of land, we’ve made some good headway on this house and it will help us acquire our next property, instead of being a hindrance.

Maybe we should send a note to the other parents to let them know Chris is the Store Manager of the Ballwin Total Wine location so they don’t think we are just raging alcoholics who are taking our children to the wine store so often they write about it at school?
